A southern favorite, Chick-fil-A had cool creamy coleslaw on their menu for nearly 50 years, and now you can make the exact recipe at home!
I haven't always been a fan of Coleslaw, but it is such a BBQ staple the more I tried it, the more I liked it. Then when I tried Chick-fil-A coleslaw, all bets were off. It's the perfect balance of cool and creamy, and it has the perfect crunch. Serve it alongside Air Fryer Chicken Nuggets (Chick-fil-A Copycat), Air Fryer Hot Dogs or Air Fryer Hamburgers for the perfect BBQ meal!
The restaurant served their coleslaw for nearly 50 years, but then abruptly took it off their menu. However, before the removed it, they shared the exact recipe in print for everyone to duplicate at home. I have been making it for years, and finally decided to share it with y'all.
Chick-fil-A Coleslaw is super easy to make, and only uses a handful of ingredients. Aside from the cabbage, you probably already have everything on hand.
How to Make Copycat Chick-fil-A Coleslaw:
**scroll down for full ingredients list and printable directions**
- Using a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the vinegar, sugar, mustard and salt. Add the mayonnaise and whisk well until completely combined.
- Add the cabbage mix or if shredding your own cabbage and carrots, add those. Use a spatula to fold the cabbage into the sauce mixture.
- Place the bowl covered in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
Pro tips for making Coleslaw:
- Use a pre-shredded bag of cabbage/carrots mixed. This saves time.
- However if you want to double or triple the recipe, it will be more cost effective to cut the cabbage and shred the carrots.
- Prepare the coleslaw the day before serving. The longer the flavors meld, the tastier the coleslaw gets! Mix well before serving.
- Keep 1-2 bags of pre-shredded cabbage/carrot mix in the freezer, then take out the day before making to defrost.
- Coleslaw will stay fresh covered in the fridge for 5-6 days.
- Reduce the sugar content (7g per serving) by using a sugar substitute such as stevia or monk-fruit.
Delicious main dishes to serve with Chick-fil-A Coleslaw:
I love serving this coleslaw alongside Air Fryer Hot Dogs or Air Fryer Hamburgers, but it's perfect for grilling too!

Hi Sharyn- I lived in NYC for 6 years and would frequent Katz's Deli often. I do think this coleslaw fits the bill, but of course every taste is different. I hope you enjoy it if you try it out!

thank you I am so excited. I have been dying for a good corn beef sandwich with swiss cheese, Russian dressing, and a dill pickle. I live in Lawton Oklahoma. This place has no deli's of any kind. No great grocery stores only Walmart. A very small mall that is being closed shortly and no sidewalks. Thank you again. I can stop scouring the internet for possibilitiesReply

Hello everyone. Thank you for all your replies, that this coleslaw goes well with pulled pork and chicken. I am sure it does. I really wanted to know does this coleslaw taste like the slaws that are severed at a Jewish deli. I want to make a genuine authentic corn beef sandwich on rye. Especially since I am paying $35.00 dollars a pound for the corned beef and that's without taxes and shipping. Thank you again, all of your replies

How long can you keep Cole slaw I. Closed container

It should last about 5-6 days in the fridge covered. It might get a little watery, just mix it up before serving!

Personal preference I used Apple Cider Vinegar, 1/4 amount of sugar and added a tsp. of celery seed. Turned out perfect for me!Reply

My Mom made an identical recipe for coleslaw that includes these same ingredients. She never measured anything, but I used to watch her make it and it tastes the same. Once in a while she would add celery seeds to switch it up. This recipe hit close to home and I believe would be a great addition to a corned beef on rye like you would find at the Jewish delis.Reply

Thank you so much for your feedback and story! I love hearing them! I will try celery seeds next time I make this as that sounds delicious!!!
