The Director for University Recreation and Wellness oversees the management and operation of comprehensive recreation and wellness programming, including fitness, aquatics, intramural sports, adventure programs, club sports, informal recreation, and wellness. They oversee extensive facilities, including 400,000 square feet of indoor recreational space and nearly 200 acres of outdoor recreation space, including playing fields, outdoor pool, and the University Golf Course. These spaces accommodate various activities supporting a diverse student body and community members. In addition, they are responsible for managing a $17M annual operating budget, leading a dedicated team comprising 45+ full-time professional staff and nearly 1,000 part-time student employees. These teams work collaboratively to deliver many programs, services, and activities to promote student engagement, development, and well-being. By fostering a culture of innovation and inclusivity, the Director ensures robust participation in diverse recreational activities to serve the University community.
Major responsibilities include: leadership & supervision (30%); resource procurement, allocation & management (25%); strategic planning & communication (20%); institutional commitments (15%); and facility & operations management (10%).

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Ten years of experience in collegiate, municipal, or corporate recreation
- Experience supervising full-time staff
- Strong leadership, budget management, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Recreation/Health/PE Administration, Sport Management, Higher Education, Student Affairs, or a related field.
- ??Demonstrated ability to build, develop, and cultivate relationships across campus and externally with nationally affiliated organizations.
- Knowledge of current theories and innovative practices in the fields of recreation and wellness in higher education settings.
- Proficient in risk management.
- Demonstrated ability to motivate staff and promote high-performing teams.
